At this point, your first draft should be written.
Take a bit of time to go over the draft and your outline. Do the paragraphs fit together?
Use your word processor to run the spell checker and grammar checker, and make any
corrections that are necessary.
Check your writing for sense and continuity.
There are a number of steps you can take to identify sections of your paper that
might be improved with revisions:
- Read your paper out loud to yourself. Very often, we can hear sentences that are either
too long, or too short -- and sections that might require a bit more development.
- Give your paper to a colleague, and ask them to read it. To get feedback you can actually
use to make your paper better, ask them specific questions:
- Is the thesis clear?
- Does the discussion seem logical?
- Are the examples you give for each point sufficient to support your thesis?
- Are there any sections with too much evidence?
- Does the conclusion make sense?
- If you are going to make significant edits, save a copy of the original draft.
